Breed of horse you absolutely HATE! or Dis like ? - Page 3

I find it funny and odd on the Halflinger post.. I have friends who have them, and they are the NICEST ponies/horses ever...
She teaches little, little kids to ride, using them.
Did you know there are certain lines of Halfies.. like people who want certain bloodlines in QH, Two eyed jack, poco bueno...
There are A lines, N line, W line , P line and others..
Some are more refined and smaller for riding, others are more drafty looking... It could be your halfies came from certain lines.

I think all shetlands have a napoleon complex.

My current horse is a Saddlebred X, she looks to be crossed with arab, but we truly think Hackney, she is soo neurotic and high strung... but a solid horse that I can do anything with..

My mare tosses her head around like a bobble head.. she is high strung and nervous...a 5 minute trailer ride and she is completely drenched in sweat...
BUT I can do anything I want with her, because I understand her, and have learned to work with her.

Horses are more afraid of us, because we ate a ham sandwich... (carnivore) than we are or can ever be afraid of them....

Any horse I dislike is usually found within a breed I like... so I can't discriminate an entire breed. A loony Arab sent me to Urgent Care... totally my bad. What was I thinking of by using a nice and gentle Dressage bit in an open 60 acre soybean field with a horse that loved to RUN?

The coolest horse I ever met and worked with though was a Saddlebred/Freisian cross filly. She was SSSOOOO smart. The sanest 3 year old I ever worked with. I would have bought her in a hot second if she didn't cost as much as a new car. I can't convince myself to pay that for a horse I won't do much with in terms of showing. She would have been excellent for parades though. Couldn't spook her.

Her half sister though, lunatic!

I can't stand the "diaper butt" on Halter horses. Looks creepy.

I really enjoy working with Warmbloods, TBs, Arabs... all known to be hot. Most aren't, they just need a job.

The most fun I ever had though was halter and lead training Miniatures. You really do get to wrestle them. They weren't mean at all, no kick or bite. Just needed a lot of patience and convincing. They're smart little things too. 1 out of the 6 I was working with took a lot more time, he was flighty. Another was the total opposite and very studly on top of it at his young age. He was hilarious, and you had to watch him. He would try and rear up by the big girls and put on a show, you had to stay after him about his behavior every step of the way. Reminded me of tiny Arabs. One just at 24 inches tall. Jury still out on if he has any dwarfism. He doesn't have any big indicators, but he's just so darn tiny!

There are individuals I don't like but no breed I hate or dislike as a whole. I would never own a Paso Fino but I have known some very nice Paso Finos. Usually, I don't like the PEOPLE associated with a breed. A lot of QH and Paint people have a strong dislike of Arabians and I've had my share of "Get that Arab and that whip away from me and my horse" going into halter classes so I don't like THOSE people. A lot of gaited horse people mildly annoy me because they say their horses can't canter. Of course they can, you just choose not to.

Strangely enough, I've found the snobs at Arab breed shows to be a lot nicer and more helpful than the local dairy farmer daughters at small local shows. idunno

Why dislike the animal?  How about putting the blame in the proper place- inept breeders or trainers.  This is true of all animal species.  Like begets like!  Eliminate those breeding for the $ or those breeding for some faddish trait to satisfy judges, either conformation or performance, and the breed improves.  Generalizations about animals are just about as valid as generalizations about ethnic groups.  Put the blame where it belongs.  Sorry for the rant-just a pet peeve of mine!lol

The people trying to place the blame on me for my dislike of Quarter Horses are too funny.
You have never seen a Quarter Horse and myself together. You would say right away we do not belong together.
So far I have had my right shoulder dislocated twice by different members of this breed. Once doing ground work, the second while riding.
They do no approach me as most other horses will. Paints are the same way with me.
I have gone to numerous sales with Quarter horses and they back away from me, even if I do not stop near them, but they approach others at the sale.
We do not like each other.

Now put me with a bunch of Morgan horses and the story completely changes. These horses cannot get enough of me.
The Arabian I can get along with too. The one Appy I rode I got along with her fine too.

I, as a rule, can't bring myself to find gaited horses attractive with their big long oversized head and freakishly (though human manipulated) over-exagerated gait.  Hiddeous!!!!

Me (Robin), my very patient and understanding Hubby whom I adore, my son, Bill, a German Shorthaired Pointer, nubian, lamancha, saanen, alpine and nigerian dwarf milk goats.

I have had many different breeds and I must say I will not ever buy another arab. Them horses are idiots if u cant get out and ride them everyday. I prefer a good quarter horse or ranch bred horse...have met a couple draft crosses that I liked also. I also wont buy another horse under about 10 years. I have a 18 year old ranch bred quarter horse that I can do just about anything on. My daughter was out yesterday riding him with no problems. I also wont buy a mare...go stupid for a couple days every 45 days. Wife went to saddle hers yesterday and she went stupid and cut up her nose...spooked for no reason. Had to call the vet after hours and have her nose sewn back up...bout 19 sutures and $210.

It kind of freaks me out to see y'all saying you "hate" such-and-such a breed. Either the word "hate" has become so devalued as to be meaningless (which would be bad), or there is an enormous amount of closed-minded bigotry and ignorance out there (which would be bad), or there are just a lot of people whose opinions WAY exceed their actual experience with lotsa horses (which I am going to hope is the explanation).

Although there are certainly *on average* breed differences in build, movement, temperament, behavior style, etcetera, there is SO MUCH variation WITHIN a breed, I can't imagine what could lead a person to conclude that *all* <insert name of breed here> are hateably <whatever>.  It does not work that way at all.

Also there is a big, big difference between "particular horses that I myself do not enjoy riding or do not wish to own" and HATING a horse, even an individual horse. I've worked with more horses than probably most other posters on this thread ever will, and I cannot think of one I'd say I "hated", although there were certainly a few that you would have to pay me a lot to get back on, and a fair number that I would not by any means wish to deal with daily or own (even leaving out fixable problems).

Man oh man oh man. "Hate"? Get a DICTIONARY, folks.
