This summer the flies were so bad here that nothing touched 'em. They laughed at those vanilla trees, the Golden Malrin, Quickstrike, water bags, you name it, it didn't work. Now that summer's over, there's not a single fly. I've read a lot about DE (Diatomaceous Earth). I don't have a need for it anymore so I don't have firsthand experience with it.
