Today, I set up a temporary fence for my 17 chicks in my larger chicken run. After about an hour of no problems, I made an opening for the babies to get into the larger opening. They had a few pecking issues but nothing major. I was very happy and planned on keeping the two groups together. As I suspected the baby chicks didn't go into the coop for the night so my husband and I had to get them in. Unfortunately, we waited too long and the babies must have piled up on the outside fence, what we assume was an owl (one was nearby in a tree) killed one through the fence. I feel horrible. I know these things happen but I wish that we got outside a little earlier to save her. I decided to move the babies back to their smaller home until they are a little bigger and try to move them again. Thanks for all of your help and advise.
