linseed oil on eggs

Hi, We dipped our chickens in linseed oil and kerosene on sunday to rid them of scaley leg mites. we also painted the roosts. I am wondering if this will effect the egg quality, as all of the eggs are now covered with the mixture. Should i dispose of these eggs?

Linseed oil is considered toxic if eaten. I'd get rid of them just in case the oil has seeped into the eggs. Not worth the risk! And I bet the kerosene wouldn't taste very good either.

Incidentally, linseed oil is actually derived from flaxseed. True flaxseed oil itself is very good for you, but don't confuse the two!

It actually depends on the linseed oil, as MT chick suggests. There is food grade linseed oil (sometimes sold as flaxseed oil) which is sold for high prices at health food stores as a supplement. Chances are, though, you have boiled linseed oil, which has icky chemicals added. That is indeed toxic. Some people use flaxseed and flaxseed meal to supplement their poultry food, though--very good for the Omega acids.

You probably know this, but be careful of the rags or towels you used to apply the linseed oil. The oil gives off heat as it dries, and it can catch fire easily.

thanks for the info. we actually used raw linseed oil because it would take longer to dry the girls seem to be doing much better today and walking around a bit more.
