Writer: I am so very saddened by your experience. I think only a person whose heart has been won over by our precious chickens can fully understand. I send gentle hugs to soothe your pain.

Just found this thread, and I am so sorry to hear about your flock. I lost four out of nine to a raccoon about a year ago, but that's nothing compared to the devastation you had; just helps me to understand your pain.
I have my fingers crossed for the hatch, though, and am hoping to hear some good news about that one of these days. Go, banty!!

I am so sorry for your loss and know how it is to lose beloved chickens! Sounds almost like a bobcat as they would be able to make the leap and carry a large bird with them! Just a thought and they have the poweer to rip a door off the hinges! Could have been a pair with young

Dont know for sure just a guess

There was a lot of noise this morning about 3:15 from the dogs, and the birds. The roosters were screaming and the hens clucking. I went out armed and ready and very quietly but didn't see anything. My neighbor the West about 1.2 mile had a coop break in during the nigh with the scenario as mine except his weren't pets they were retired fighting birds that were in what I would consider the Fort Knox of coops. He thinks he found Bobcat tracks though and the outer door was destroyed. It's a heavy wooden framed door with two layers of hardware netting and the wired was literally ripped to shreds.

Are you sure you are not dealing with a mountain lion (or a bear, though you said there aren't any around)? The kind of damage you are talking about to your coop seems much more extensive than I could see a bobcat inflicting. That sounds like a BIG predator. Hardware cloth ripped to shreds screams "bear" to me.

So sorry for the continued losses.
