Ancona Ducks

Wants to see everyones ancona ducks and where you got them. tongue

heres mine the one on the very right im thinking of keeping (cause he has chocolate coloring) and get some more ducklings,or hatching eggs, or female ducks next year

Chickens - (Naked Necks, Easter Eggers, Ameraucanas, D'uccles, and others.)
Call Ducks - (Blue Bibbeds, Greys, Chocolates, Whites, Silvers, and Butterscotches.)

Guineas - (Pearl Greys and Royal Purples.)

I just recently learned about them, so I'm very interested in what people have to say, but I don't have any of my own, yet.

I'm a fresh young'un graduated from college and on my first real job. I grew up on a small farm surrounded by cows, goats, sheep, dogs, cats, rabbits, ducks, geese, quail, guinea hens and of course- chickens.

I ADORE anconas... but have none of my own. I have Runners and magpies... anconas are next on my list... except that I have no room for more ducks!! lol But I'm following this thread because I love them so much and can't wait to see everyone's pictures.

By the way, I would totally keep the duck on the right in the picture--I love his "double breasted" look, lol!

beautiful ducks I havee a drake that looks like the one in the center but he has no ancona in him hes a mix between pekin and rouen

I have a flock of Anconas: Blacks, Blues, and Chocolates. They are really enjoyable ducks to have around. Dual-purpose, but leaning more toward a layer.

I've been working on getting rid of the large patches of color that makes them look like a poor quality Magpie. Most Anconas out there need to have less shoulder/back markings and more color on their chest (where the Swede's bib would be). If you've found a nice flock of heavy, laying birds, those are the better ones to pick out of the flock.

Raising American Buff and Pilgrim Geese, Ancona, Harlequin, Rouen, Campbell, Saxony, and Buff ducks, Muscovies, Rosecomb Barred Rock, Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, Wheaten/Blue Ameraucana, and Red Ameraucana chickens, Blue/Royal Palm and Blue Slate turkeys, Jumbo Coturnix quail, Jumbo Ringneck Pheasants, Redclaw Lobsters, Blue Tilapia, and an assortment of show rabbits. Hatching eggs available.

u just put blue and chocolate!!! they r pretty i might need to get some hatching eggs form u next year wink

I'll be selling hatching eggs all next year. My hens are Black, Blue, and Chocolate. My drakes are all Blue, so everything will at least be split to Blue and will carry that gene. As I build up more of the Chocolates and Blues I'll be thinning out more of my Blacks. I'm a sucker for those colors.

Do they start  laying  about February-March   or later?

Good  Lord  made birds  of meat   for us  to eat.

Really, Anconas are good about laying all winter. I have eggs here and there. Someone mentioned in another thread that Ancona eggs aren't fertile this time of year. I'm not doing any duck hatching right now, but eventually I will probably throw some in the incubator just to see if any develop. I'm not sure -why- the drakes would be shooting blanks right now and I'm curious to know if my flock does that. If they don't I may sell a few cheap eggs for anyone who wants to take a chance with winter deliveries. Otherwise I'll be selling my eggs in March-April when it's easier to guarantee that the eggs aren't frozen solid before they hit the nestbox.
