Molting in Winter? PIX

MissAntonio,
Please let us know how your hen is. I hope she de it through the worst part of her molt. I have one I'm worried about now too. She is half naked and not willing to snuggle up with the others, but I can tell she's cold. It's supposed to go in the teens here this week! I don't know what to do for her.

Amanda she is doing much better now. I started feeding her tuna for some extra protein and I also started her on a high protein layer feed asap. I got at tractor supply. It says on the bag for feather growth. I hope this helps. Keep us posted

Update: i broke down and spent $50 for a heating pad for our molting hen. It was money well spent as I could sleep at night knowing she wasn't freezing. I only had it in at night so I didn't make her "soft". Sadly, as her new feathers were starting to grow in nicely, a hawk got into their yard and killed her. I'm guessing she was chosen by the hawk due to looking sickly. She was one of our favorites due to her strong personality. I'm glad at least she was comfortable in her last days.
