Hi! I have a source for free fresh cottage cheese. I can have 3 (24 oz.) contaniers per week. How much and how ofyen would you feed it to a flock of 25 chickens ( 2 roos, 23 pullets, 17 of those pullets laying--the other 6 a little too young yet) They LOVE it, but I don't want to overdo it.... on ther other hand, it has lots of protein and calcium....
 
Lots of discussion on other posts about milk products.
Many think raw milk gives them diarrhea.
Majority think digested milk products like yogurt and cheese are safe, .

Try a half tub and see what happens.
I bet they love it and nothing bad happens at all.
At the worst a day of chicken diarrhea gets soaked up in woood chips and you won't do it again.
Personally, I think you have a good thing going if you can keep getting the stuff for free. HIgh protein and calcium load would be good for the hens and probably fill out the meat on your roosters too.

I thought cottage cheese was good to feed the birds. In moderation. I'm sure I read that CCheese was OK somewhere here at BYC. I give my birds some a few times a week they love it. Should I stop?

It will not hurt them, as with anything , moderation is the key. If you fed them nothing but CC every day then you may have a problem but if you give it to them a bit at a time, you will be fine. You are right it has excellent nutritional value for them. Good score!!

I give my hens cottage cheese (low fat) and plain yogurt regulary, no signs of issues like lactose intolerance or runny poops at all...I mix in oats, flax and spinach and sometimes grapes...

Free cottage cheese - I'd be all over that like a hen on a mealworm sandwich!

The only thing I have noticed definitely gives them a case of the runs in bananas....which they adore, but only get once in a blue moon!
