I never heard of them so i,
googled their phone number and all kinds of strange stuff came up under it, perhaps they are one of them drop ship buisness that really don't have anything they just take orders and resell stuff, just a thought when i saw all the stuff listed under the 888-800-1778 number listed on the site.

Yeah, I'd say they're either a drop ship hatchery or just one like all the others - Buy stock from another hatchery, then "resell" it once you've got your grown birds breeding.

Also, they seem to do the same Murray McMurray thing of "We'll only show you illustrations, not even pictures of other people's birds like other hatcheries. . ."

I saw that ad awhile back, too, on craigslist. I was interested that there could be a hatchery not far from L.A., so I did a little looking around on the net. Their address matches one for a business called PostPlus or Postal Plus according to google maps. That made it appear to be just a post office box scam or at best a drop shipper.

I hope someone from Tehachapi can attest to the fact there is a real brick an mortar business that hatches lot of chicks right there in town. Until then, I will order straight from the well know hatcheries on my own.

Why does the ad say they will ship in Texas, but the website is centered in California?

The photos are the exact same photos that are in the "Index" used by Atwoods that orders the chicks from Ideal.

I saw their ad on Craigslist today so I called their toll free number and spoke with a gentleman. He seemed normal. I asked about the address and he said it's a mailing address becuase they don't want any Tom, Dick, or Harry to just show up. Their site also says that you can call for directions. Anyway, my aunt lives in Techachapi and I plan on visiting her and this hatchery in July. I'll let ya'll know what happens. I also noticed that they copied their pics and descriptions from Ideal becuase they forgot to remove the name Ideal in one of their descriptions! Yikes. I'm thrilled to possibly have the option to get chicks without having to pay for shipping.

Yes, please keep us posted. A local hatchery would be really nice, but I am still skeptical until someone says they have seen a hatchery with all those breeds they list. The phone number in the craigslist listing and at their website matches one also used "Signature Printing" and a tutoring business as well.

Here is my cousins email regarding the "hatchery":

"OK Renee, I just talked to the guy at the hatchery. I asked him if we could get the address to come look at the hatchery and he said they don't have anything there. The way it works is we tell him what we want and he orders it from a hatchery in Mexico and they ship it to your door. It sounded like he is the middle man. He thought the minimum was 15-20. He also made me wait on the phone for like 2 min. why he carried on a conversation about marking up the prices on fish and chicken dinners!"

So ya'll were correct!

Thanks for the update!

Hey, new here. Chicken owner as of two weeks. However, we did pick up some birds from Jimmy B yesterday (of Signature Poultry). My husband had found his information on Craig's list weeks ago and the guy sold him on Cou Cou Morans because they lay chocolate brown eggs. We live 80 miles away so it took us a little while to finally make the day trip there and back again, but my hubby was covetous of those eggs so we had to go!

The guy IS a little eccentric but he had an unusual mix of different varieties of chickens. His hatchery is in New Mexico and that is strictly a mail order business. However he raises pullets and cockerels at his farm in Stallion Springs and the ones we saw were about 6 months old. He had a large variety of unusual varieties of chickens. He had gold lace cochins, dominiques, at least one silkie, and a whole host of others I have no idea what they were including a large pale orange rooster that may have been an Orpington. Some were bare of tail feathers because he said he had too many until he sold a bunch. He planning on raising a bunch of game birds, including turkeys, for sale in the fall...but the "barn" he was raising them in was rather small (10 x 20) so I don't know. Maybe he's going to build another barn.

You have to get yourself to stallion springs and then give him a call to get directions the rest of the way, partially because it would be hard to find without specific instructions. We picked up four Morans which were rather difficult to catch and I was disappointed to discover upon getting home that we had 3 morans and 1 dominique! I wish I had checked the box before we left but the birds were very flighty and we were afraid to open the box once they were inside. Oy. Oh well. Aside from some missing tail feathers she is a beauty.

Anyway, that is my story on Jimmy B and his birds, and I'm stickin' to it.
