Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread - Page 200

I would never sell pullets from Bev until they lay and I would cull down gradually as I find faults some of which don't show up until their final molt on the cockerels. You can sell them for what feed you have in them when they lay dark eggs. They should be nice birds as Bev is the Marans Lady so many things can happen so I would take my time to choose.

It costs less to have the very best. Trying to raise Delawares and Marans I also have Silver Penciled Rocks New Hampshires Midget Whites Bourbons and Royal Palms......home of many APHA horses. Breeder of World Champions and Honor Roll Champions and High Point winners. I love to trail ride and camp with my friends.

keep ten hens after all of them reach 12 to 14 personaly i would not keep the blues or at least not with the pure wheatens. sa or the roos. keep all of them in a differant pen untill thay start fuighting. keepone roo with 10 hens the best one u have or best you " think " with your girls the longer you keep the roos seperated from the hens the longer they ont fight . usualy takes 12 to 14 befor they kill each outher

Happy Easter Randy!

I've been having problems posting on BYC, I usually can only post one time per day, and this has been since Friday. I guess the Support Team is off for the holidays?? I can't figure out what is wrong, I've done all I can on my end. The eggs are still cooking away here, sue on the 20th. Hope you have a great hatch there!!

Had to mow the grass again today, in March, really?? More tree trimming and planning on two different spots for pens. I can side in my lean-to on the shed for starters, and make a big run off of it. When more money comes in (HA!), I can get the shed converted in whole, and add more pens. The other spot is for seperating the Silkies by color. What have I gotten myself into??? lau.gif

Hey guys, thought I'd drop in, it's been a really long time since I've been on BYC.  I've just hatched out a bunch of Blue Copper, cuckoo, birchen and BC Marans from Germany (well a few weeks ago they hatched) and I've got a project going with some Columbian marans that need to lay bigger darker eggs.  I saw there was some discussion about silver wheaten, and I'm expecting to get a few of those in the process.  I've heard it takes about 3 generations to get rid of the non-sex linked gold/brown/red that Wheatens or BC can introduce when crossing wheaten or BC to silver cuckoo, birchen or columbian.

Hi Deb, this may be an old question, but what do you do with your excess Silkie roos?  I've been tempted to start hatching some silkies, but I'm not sure I could handle the black bones and blue meat from the extra roos.  Right now I've got some wheaten bantam cochins growing out as broodies, but I've read the Silkies are the queens of brooding.  I'm hoping to lower my electric bill by using some warm mother hens instead of so many heated brooders.

Good luck on all your hatches.  Randy, are you all clear from the yellow legs?

Roger
