Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread - Page 221

Ok, babykins is only 6 days old today, but here is a pic. Does anyone else see pullet?? Since it's wing feathers are just starting, I am going by the tail coming in. On all of my BCMs, the tail comes in much sooner on the pullets. Any guesses??

I'm gonna bet it's a girl.

but I bet you'll know for sure in a few days.

While we're on the subject,  I have a question about one of mine.  She was just as brown as the other females, and not showing any black in her feathers until this week (into her 4th week I think).  I'm seeing a pattern that looks a suspiciously a lot like my 5 week old roo.

Do I have a male that was disguising himself?  There isn't any crest or anything,  just the unusual darker pattern that's unlike the other girls.

They both look like pullets to me! (Debbi's and Bangarang's)

My humble opinion though...idunno.gif

Bangarang ~  I'd say that's a pullet. They are supposed to have some black in the wings and tail. At 4 weeks, the bird would be showing more comb and wattles if it were a roo. Since this is my first Wheaten, I have no experience as to how they feather in, but that comb says to me, pullet.

Thanks Cuckoo! I'm hoping for pullet with mine!

Thanks you guys!  I really appreciate the help.

Hey Randy,  I'll upload a few pictures of my Rooster when I get home.  I'd love to get your opinion on how he's coming along.

Bangarang, If I had a vote would say male chick.

Don,

We are seldom as great in the eye of others as we are in our own mind.. Look at the photo section at the album and see pictures of my setup. Plan on adding a few pictures shortly.

Don,  I'd like to know what you see that makes you think roo in his bird?  I have no experience with the Wheaten color so far, well at least none more than a week old. wink.png
