I hope you don't mind my comments....the blue isn't a good color he's a great picture of straw so he will be a cull and quite frankly since you are new I wouldn't use any of these birds for sop breeding as they seem mixed varieties and that will only cause you much grief as you try and breed them and trust me breeding good stock is not an easy task when you start with the best stock money can buy.....You can learn much from growing them out and if you eat your culls they will be very tasty if not they will be pretty when they are grown. You do live in a state that has some good breeders I would start with better stock so you can have a better flock of your own sooner.....

You posted two picture 5's, so I'm not sure which one you mean.  The blue in the first picture has very light hackle and saddle feathers - but if he is blue and not blue copper he shouldn't have red in his wings.

Between the two blue coppers - it's hard to tell from your pictures.  I can't tell the eye color on the second one.  It should be clear of any dark patches, and ideally bright reddish brown.  They start out sort of light greenish gray though.  You want to look at width and length of the body in general, tails that don't set up too high, things that can't be really seen in one picture.  

If you're trying to decide between two, try to stick them in a pen and get some good closeups of the head, body from above, of the legs.  Have someone hold the bird with spread wings and get shots of the wings, etc.  Then post those pics.  Post the wheatens here, post the Blue Coppers on the BCM/Blue Copper thread.

That's not good. Roos can do some serious damage, and especially with kids. You pretty much have 2 options. Pen him up, and don't let the kids near him.  Unless he is a spectacular example of the breed in all other regards I would not use him for breeding. The temperament will pass on.  Second option...Stew pot. 

As for all the dandy talk about picking them up and carrying them around to gentle them, let me just say, THAT IS A CROCK! No problem when you are holding them, put them on the ground, and the fight is on again.  Just out of curiousity, what color of clothing were the kids wearing? Reds and oranges are akin to the rooster looking at the hackles of a strange roo. Strange roo = fight!  I found that out the hard way, the only thing that saved me was my walking cane! Those colors do not bother my other roos, just the one, so I no longer wear red or orange any more outside! If I had kids here, this roo of mine would be long gone!

I have a hard time believing in the tempermant passing on, is there evidence of a "mean gene"?

I wouldn't let kids get attacked, but without knowing how this attitude started I would set him up with a run and keep him for breeding if he is what you have to work with,,,jmho
