Chickens not eating the new Purina Layena pellets

We've been feeding the 5 Delawares we have the Purina Layena Pellets with no problems.

I bought a (pink-that was different) new bag from Tractor Supply recently and the chickens are just not eating it like they were previously. I did give them some bug-infested grains from the pantry on Monday, so figured that accounted for them having a good 3/4 of their food still in the dish on Tuesday so I just topped it off with a little more food. But today(Weds) I didn't need to feed them anymore at all! And yesterday I hadn't given them any scraps.

Today they got a little bowl of chili and some bits of cornbread/quickbread for a "snack".

I did get 3 eggs today from the 4 hens, so apparently they're good there.

I am wondering if anyone else's chickens are refusing the Layena? Maybe they're just too cold out there and they aren't eating as much or maybe I gave them more grains on Monday than I estimated.

Another thought....not sure who all here is aware of Genetically Modified corn and soy....but the second generation of GMO corn and soy was harvested last fall and I wonder if it's made it into the feed now and that might be why the chickens are refusing it...

My chickens are eating the pink bag just as much as before.

Mine are eating it just fine also.

Eh... I just treat my chickens like my kids.... They will eat what I give them , when they get hungry enough. I wouldnt worry too much, give them at least a week. I dont think its the GMO feed, I have a feeling they cant taste the difference in GMO and non-GMO food.

I have noticed a difference in how much feed they eat when I tried to give them Farmers Best lay crumble instead of Purina (trying to save a few bucks) Egg production went wayyyy down, 12 eggs a day to 3 or 4, then it went right back up when I switched back. I thought it was a fluke, but I tried the Farmers Best again and got tthe same results. I have NO idea what the difference is between the 2 brands (if there is one beyond the outside of the bag), the only difference I can SEE is the Farmers best has a few whole kernels of corn mixed in it.
The hens eat it, but they dont eat it as fast as Purina, nor do they lay as well. I have no idea why that is.

Sounds like you arent having any production problems, so maybe they just need a bit longer to adjust to whatever it is that is bothering them, or maybe they just arent that hungry right now?

Maybe they are holding out for some more "real" food.

I do find that I get more eggs when I give them meat scraps...

Ugh, talking about birds holding out for "good food"...

For a time I'd give my cockatiel cooked warmed pellets with bits of grains/veggies/fruit in the evening... well, after a few days he caught on and was not eating ANYTHING from his feed cup during the day and just waiting for night fall so he could eat more of his warm food. It was like weaning him all over again so he'd eat throughout the day and now only randomly gets his "favorite" foods so he doesn't starve himself waiting.

The man where I buy my feed said that the bag is pink for breast awareness. Its the same feed though.

Have you ever thought maybe that bag is old or molded...smell it good..it might be. I see no reason why they ate it at first and not now.
