I work at Animal Place, a sanctuary for farmed animals in Grass Valley, CA (about an hour from Sacramento), and we currently have around fifty roosters that are looking for homes. These guys were rescued from a hoarding case that will be featured on Animal Planet's "Confessions: Animal Hoarding" in January. They are mixed-breed, most have some silkie heritage. They come in many sizes, colors, and shapes, some have crests and some don't, some have feathered feet and some don't, and many are downright gorgeous! They are FREE to approved homes. We have a few hens available as well, but most are already adopted. These birds are not to be adopted for meat purposes. They will stay on the sanctuary grounds until they find good homes, but the sooner they go to new homes, the sooner we have more space to rescue more chickens or other farm animals.
I know the demand for roosters on BYC is not very high, but I figured I'd post that these guys are available because there are so many handsome fellows who could use homes. They are friendly both with people and each other--they are all in a pasture together and they do not fight. If you're looking for just the right rooster to head up your flock, you should come out and see if any of them have what you're looking for!
If you're interested, you can feel free to visit our website, www.animalplace.org, e-mail me at [email protected], or drop me a PM any time.
Please don't press Buy It Now, just contact me if you'd like to take in any roosters.
Here are a few photos of the guys, and a poster I made for local advertisement:
(Poe, pictured above, is amazing! I thought he was a cemani when I first saw him because of his all-black comb and wattles.)
