Galvanized double walled Waterers leaking

I am on my second waterer in a month they both seam to leak straight from the store. There doesn't seem to be any damage to either can and I have checked the levelness several times,but I still get a very slow overflow leak that occurs which gets the litter very wet and in this cold weather I'm sure isn't good for the chickens. I have a heated base which is why I am using the metal type in the winter regularly i use a plastic waterer with no leak problem at all. Can someone tell if I'm doing something wrong or something to prevent this or is it just nature of the beast.
 
If the waterer is sitting on a heated base it may be that the air inside the can is expanding from the warmth and forcing more water out and thus overflowing. You might try not filling the can as full and see if that helps. More room for the air to expand inside.

I've used these on heated bases for years, filled to the top, and never had this happen. The only time I've had a problem is when they are first filled and the outer cylinder is put on they will gush and run over the rim. But, if they are level, it should stop. I've actually had less problem with these than the plastic ones.​
 
We switched to a two gallon one on a cookie tin heater base and hasnt been a problem. I keep mine level and refill it outside the tractor so there is no spill or overflow to make a mess inside.
 
I just returned one to TSC, because it was made really poorly. It was Harris Farms brand & it may very well have sealed with the lid on, but with just the inside part filled it not only leaked water as they stated it might, it gushed water. There was no way I could have filled it & carried it to the coop. The new ones have a wide metal band going thru the rubber washer instead of a smaller rod and hole that the old ones used to have. It was very poorly made & i wasn't paying $20 for it.
 
I have the same issue. The rubber seal doesn't fit right and it leaks out as you are filling it.

Nope, the problem was the way it was made, there was no way the rubber could ever be close to being pulled tight to the side & the hole thru the washer was too big. The new galvanized waterers are very cheaply made compared to 15 years ago & rust thru in a year.​
 
The answer I was kind of hoping to here from someone that tried it was to put Vaseline around the outside of inner can to possibly make a better seal when slid together and locked. I have not tried this but for some reason I think I heard something like this being done I could be totally wrong. I think I will try it and let you all know.
