lice!!!

I used coconut oil on my chickens this Spring and was so happy and shocked with how well it worked! I treated twice and haven't seen lice since. Yippee! The only draw back was that my chickens have had bare butts ever since. It's almost like they liked the taste of the coconut oil so they ate the feathers. Any one else have this happen? Finally, I notice a few feathers coming in on a few chickens. Otherwise completely bare butts! It's gonna be a cold Winter for them!

My coop is 7x6x6. I ended up getting the 3 pack of 1 lb each of Sevin and some DE coming. The only thing I can't find is how MUCH I use. My flock of 15 have lice--or at least one does, so I assume everyone needs treating. Do I just sprinkle it like carpet cleaner when the coop is clean? Also, I plan to do the bag shake with my girls one by one.

Another thought I had was that if I am doing egg withdrawal for the SEvin I might as well do the parasite cleanse I put off this fall because my girls were laying so well and everyone seemed fine. Is that too much for their bodies at once?

Last question: I have 5 12 week olds. Do I do them too?

TIA for any adivce. I am dreading this but hoping to get it under control quickly and back to just enjoying my girls

Hi all, We are new to chicken eeping and realised our hybrids have quite a horrible infestation (loads of egg clusters at base of feathers near the vent). it is weird though, as the lice haven't jumped on our other breeds.

Anyhow, we powdered one of our chickens on Wednesday when she had a bounded egg and all of the chickens on saturday. But we don't know how/when the egg clusters will disappear? do we have to do something ourselves, or will they drop off?

we are planning on powedering them again on Saturday (6 days after ;at powder) to ensure that any eggs that hatch are powdered.

any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

What is a good home remedy for lice with ingredients from the kitchen or bathroom? How should i apply it?
