So, do you try not to have very many males because they are loud and that the colors don't travel through the gene pool as well??

Peacocks are like game roosters and they will fight over territory and overall dominance. If you have or planning to get India Blues and your pen is big or your open ranging you will still have to limit your males due to aggressiveness but can get away with more than one depending on the personalities. If you are looking at Greens, then you will have to pen at all times (they dont open range well) and the males will have to be seperated during breeding season and in my case I have to put partitions where they cannot see each other at all in between the pens or they will destroy the pen as well as themselves. Peas are like chickens and there for sure is a pecking order so you have to limit your males and thats why in most cases the hens are more sought after. As for the noise, that is also a factor if you have neighbors because yes India Blues are very noisy but a sweet sound to us pea lovers. Greens are not near as noisy in fact, they are very quiet when compared to IB's. As for colors, genes, etc... Whatever species you pick will be gorgeous and you will have no issues until you decide to breed for colors and patterns then, it can get messy but, thats a whole different subject that I would not be concerned with in the beginning. I guarantee that you will enjoy every pea you get,👍. Please keep us posted.

You are responding to a pretty old thread.  It's a little early in the season for new chicks, but there are most likely yearlings and older birds available.  It would help if you could explain what you are looking for specifically, and where you are.  Some sellers ship birds, others prefer to sell locally or to have the buyer pick up the birds.

Have you read the Peafowl 101 stickies yet?  Peas are great, and we all love them.... lots of stuff to learn about and be sure of appropriate housing for them.

Good luck on your pea journey! :woot
