Rats in my ducts

SNAP TRAPS are the way to go. I saw huge ones at the feed store.T-rex brand is online and good.Never use poison in the house .I made that mistake when I freaked over an attic mouse.Ended up with 2-3 weeks of decomp smell in my ds's room. Ugh, I can still smell it(when I think about it). I could never find the mouse.

With rats in the duct can you imagine the lovely *flora* mixed with warm air.OMG,that would be nasty. Snap trap and having the duct work checked for the hole to get it repaired, otherwise you will be heating the crawl.

I leave snap traps set in the crawl all the time.Amazing how critters can get in despite my hard work at blocking acess.
I have done poison in the crawl.Works well, but if there is a risk of them dying in the walls or ducts I would stick with the traps.

Best wishes!

Well as the night went on the smell got worse. It was coming out of all the ducts and it wasn't 2 days ago. Noticed at the air handler unit outside the house that I could smell them there. Sent hubby in and told him to check there first. He said there was a pile of insulation off the return and forced air lines in between the lines. He started digging through it and found a nest. I sent him back under with a small trash can and double layer of gloves. He caught 5 of them. Said there were more but they ran.

The good news is they aren't actually in the duct, just between them. They stripped the insulation off the return pipe and put a few puncture holes in it. That is the reason we all of a sudden started smelling them. From reading about just one bite and its required dose for secondary kill, I think I'll put some in the crawl space.

Thanks guys!

Canned cat food is excellent mouse bait. I wasn't catching anything with peanut butter, so I dribbled can cat food drippings over the bait plate. I had a mouse in 30 minutes. Good luck!
