i emailed my hen supplier and asked if she had any Cockrels

 

now i want them for breading rather than stewing but i know loads of people that dont keep roos and use them as meat birds

 

well my supplier said if i can come and get them i can have them for free

 

very kind of her

 

i asked what she had and she told me i can choose a couple from

 

Maran, Legbar, Lavender Aurucana, Barnvelder and a host of Bantams

 

i gonna pick up 3 1 maran, 1 legbar and 1 austrolop from her this or next week

5 Red Star, 1 Speckledy, 3 Col Blacktails, 3 White Star [Leghorn]  1 Amber Star - All Hybrid Pullets, 1 French Copper Marans - Roo, 2 Lavender Araucanas - Roos, 3 Cream Legbars - 2 Pullets & 1 Roo

I have approximately eighty baby chickens. I got carried away and over ordered. They are a little over one month old. I have five Road Island Reds, four Silver Winedots, four Bard rocks, six White Rocks, six Brown Leghorns. These are all supposed to be pullets. I also have between twelve and twenty Black Osterlopes, straight run, about ten Oster Whites, straight run, twelve White Crested Polish, straight run, some Golden Seabrights and some other assorted Bamtams. Buy as many of each as you want for $10.00 each. Thank you Ken

They wanted laying hens and it costs a fortune to raise a hen for a year.... I have a friend who sells feathered out marans pullets for $30 and POL Marans pullets for $50-60

but then i had a very kind friend who gave my kids a hen each a few months ago that where a year old

 

and today they are my star layers

Sometimes I give birds away to my friends or throw in extras to customers, too.  But not $5 marans layers to strangers on craigslist. lol  I usually give away roosters for free as well.

your another friendly chicken keeper

 

i love my chicken like my own family and parting with them would be a no no but i am more then happy to give away eggs to my friends

 

but then my dad raids my fridge before that and nicks them before hand

 

he seems to have a taste for my free range eggs

 

my dad is what got me into chicken he was a meat bird man and where i got my passion for keeping  them

 

me im a egg man and keep them for eggs but would use them for meat when the time comes

$10 for a month old chicks?!?!?!?!?!?!? THATS CRAZY!!! if he wants to get rid of them, he should at least lower the price by half :/
