Wheat sprout feeder

alrighty i may be dustin off this topic but i found it very intersting. i just got a seed starter doohickey at the store as well as some of those plastic mesh things that you use for crafts. i'm gonna try useing that for sprouting. also in my sprouting research i found something that i thought you all might find useful.

they look like smaller versions of the OPs baskets. :)

I have been sprouting wheat also. Chickens go CRAZY for it. They will jump up and attack me to get at it.

But from the little I have been reading about this the most optimal time to feed the sprouted seeds is on the fourth day. Anyone else heard of this?

So my process is I got some those those canning jar lid sprouters. I put about a 1/3 cup of wheat in a pint jar and fill with water. Let sit for 18-24 hours. Then drain and the process just continues. I have 5 jars and every day they get a pint full of sprouts. Fill and drain each one every day.

I use the plastic c containers baby spinach comes in. Punch lots of holes..bunny and chicks love it.

I know this is an old thread but after reading it all I wanted to share my ideas.

Hydroponic baskets. The largest I found was a 9" x 9" x 5" square basket. They are not as nice and large as Mother Hen's but they are made for growing plants so there shouldn't be any chemical transfer from the plastic. They only seem to come in black. I found these at the local hydroponic shop when I was getting some grow bags for my strawberries. I have seen them on ebay and other websites as well.

The other baskets I found were some cheap 5" x 5" plastic berry baskets from China. They have the fine mesh but are small. I found these on ebay and they ship from China so you need to make that call for yourself.

My buddy dropped of a bag of wheat left by the combine today. I was just gonna feed it but this is a much better idea!!!!
