osu,
I don't think they'd be a bad place if you are not worried about color. I think you'll have a time separating out color varieties for a few years, but changes are you know more about breeding chickens than they do.

There are too many breeds and varieties in the world to have them all... but its too hard just to choose a few.

Currently breeding Bantam Orpingtons, Anconas, White Faced Black Spanish, and RC Rhode Island Reds.  Also have Buff, Blue Swedish and Runner ducks along with Chinese Geese.

I was home sick from work today and read this entire thread.  A very good read, I picked up a few good ideas to use.  Thank you all for the info.

josh,
She looks really good. Standard WFB Spanish are very difficult to come by these days. I'm guessing  you know the claim to fame that these birds have?

This was the first chicken brought to America by the Spanish (other than Games which can also contend for first place).

I wish more folks would take up the breeding and conservation of this old breed.

If there is any breed that could go by the name of 'American' it would have to be this one: the earliest of them all.

They say "three's the charm". Or something like that. So this is the last (third) old and rare breed. Not the Silkies... they are playing "Mom".
