Extremely small black bugs?

Hello Miss Lydia,
This past week I was scrubbing up my hen house. Changed out the shavings, added lots of lavendar & took fresh mint leaves & rubbed them all over the wall behind the perch as well as on the perches. Prepping for the cold weather to come here in Utah. I felt very proud of my accomplishment. It looked & smelled so good.
The next day I was scooping up the night droppings from their poop through & felt something crawling on my hand. It was the tiniest bug I've ever seen.
So...I made a spray using water, peppermint oil & melaleuca oil & wet down the entire inside of the hen house & all around the perimeter as well as the yard itself. I locked the hens out for a couple hours to allow the area to dry.
Just this morning after letting the brewd out I noticed a dropped egg (an entirely different story) in the poop through. After picking it up I had about 10 of those same tiny black bugs on my hand.
I just found your very informative post regarding Ivomec Eprinex & wanted to say THANK YOU for taking the time to share this with us less educated chicken lovers. Last night my husband gave me his perspective on how well I take care of & love my hens. I explained to him that there are hundreds of thousands of us that just can not explain why we are so passionate about chicken keeping.
Why do we love them so much when they cant reciprocate the love? It's pride, accomplishment, joy, fascination, you name it....but it is what it is.
Your post blessed me today, thank you!
Kelly
