it was really a weird bunch of pics I got, this one, two minutes later two deer , two minutes past that two coons, then a little break and this guy (or girl) again. Don't you just love suburbia? 

I wish they would all do something about the squirrel population, the hawks are the only ones taking care of them.

I agree.

 

No matter what color phase red foxes are in, they always will have white on the end of their tails and grays do not.

 

Plus, most of the time the muzzle on grays are not as long as it is on reds.

 

But sometimes this hard to tell at distance, so I just look at the tip of the tail for a positive ID.

definitely a gray. big males show a lot of red. i think they are prettier than reds. the red fox is much more of a chicken killer than the more nocturnal and very skippish gray fox. i don't think a gray would enter a chicken house.

Thanks, I will remember about the white tip. He (or she) has not bothered my hens and they are in a VERY secure run with the coop completely 

inside. 

Had another skunk v. electric fence last night, what a stink!
