Please Post Pictures of Your Creative Nesting Boxes - Page 4

This is I guess the most creative one we have. It is made from a cheap corner bookcase turned on it's side with a 1' x 2' perch added to the front for access. The rest are all metal nest boxes, old milk crates and custom built wooden ones.

We have old wooden apple crates for nest boxes.

We used an old cabinet that had 2 shelves.  And put cat litter boxes in them.

We butted the cabinet up against the coop and cut holes out in the back of the cabinet for the chickens to get into the nestbox.

We don't have to go in coop...... all we have to do is open the cabinet doors to access the eggs.

Then again, It doesn't matter how great an idea you have for nestingboxes....sometimes they lay where they want to.  In this case.  On a narrow ledge! Sigh.

I love seeing all of your wonderful and original ideas for nesting boxes! Please, everyone, keep posting as I am sure there are soooo many more creative nesting boxes! I originally began this thread because I saw these neat cone like nest boxes in a McMurray catalogue but didnt want to part with the $ so got to thinking.... there must be dozens of you backyard chicken keepers with some insightful and awesome boxes.... sure enough! I hope there's more inspiration coming......

For those of you who want to use the 5 gallon buckets as nesting boxes, check with your local Wal Mart bakery or any other bakery.  They usually store their icing in 5 gallon buckets and they give the 5 gallon buckets away for FREE.  I get all of my 5 gallon buckets WITH lids from Wal Mart.  They are in excellent condition.  I call them in the AM and tell them how many I need and they have them ready for me the same day.  Did I say that they were FREE!

Mine looks like Bammy's, only I just have 3 buckets. They seem to prefer one bucket over the other 2, but every now & then I'll get an egg in the others.
Maybe they only use the others when there's already 2 laying in the preferred bucket? smile
