What a great design!

Here is what I did. Just pick up the crate, empty, replace with new straw and put back.  I have since added a slanted mini roof over it to keep them from roosting and pooping thru the top of the crate.

So YOU'RE the person I stole that image from!  Hope you don't mind....  I saved it so I can refer to it any time somebody asks about nesting boxes.  I am going to copy it in my next coop.  I absolutely love it!  Thanks so much!

And that mini-roof addition, is it just another long board, installed at an angle?  That's how *I* planned on dealing with the roosting/pooping problem.

Buncha Outdoor PET chickens, ducks, two Toulouse ganders, and four turkeys. Plus 2 wiener dogs, some bunnies and a rescue cat which owns me. Oh. And a house silkie....

here is a sideways! (sorry hmm ) picture of our big nest box - i use a bunch of different sized plastic tubs - this worked out really well when this girl went broody, i was able to take her,  the eggs and nest all in one and move her to her own spot! without picking her up off the eggs to move them all.

Here's the one I made recently.  It's not that unusual looking, but I was proud of it because I made it from all recycled and salvaged materials...except for the screws holding it together.  I put it together one night while hubby was at work.

See... girls really CAN use power tools, but I did have to enlist his assistance to carry into the chicken pen!
