The only breed you mention is Marans. Are these then all marans or others too?

Love those Orps!

I don't care why the chicken crossed the road, as long as mine don't!

It appears there are three very tough competitors for the Marans... I'd hate to be penned next to one of them if I were showing Marans.

I only showed Marans so those are the only results I have; however, there were a lot of other breeds and breeders - they had a lot of trophies being handed out (a couple of our Maran folks received trophies also).  I don't know how to get the results from the other breeds unless you happen to know someone who was an exhibitor :(  Maybe it could be googled ? no, clue - some days, I'm not much good for anything :)

Anyway, in order to find out about up and coming shows (the show season down here is over and the first big show in 2013 is the Bluebonnet Classic on January 5, 2013 if I'm not mistaken, but someone please correct me if I'm wrong) from what I'm finding out is (1) word of mouth (2) Poultry Press and (3) Exhibition Poultry and (3) Buster's chickens also has a lot of information posted about upcoming shows, trade days, etc. posted on her website.  I'm sure there are probably other ways too, but so far, these are the only ones I know about.  Exhibition Poultry and Buster's chickens are both websites so I don't know if I will get "in trouble" by posting the exact site, but if you search for these you should be able to find them (that's how I found them).

I know there is a lawn show (an informal get together) I believe hosted by the Brazos Valley Poultry Club (which also has a website) on May 5th in Brenhem and it's to teach people about exhibiting and what to expect.  This will be my first time attending and I am hoping to learn a lot.

Hello to everyone new (or just making it back) !!

Planted the rest of my garden this weekend; however, I've run out of room :( so I will be tilling up another area this weekend to plant my cukes and melons and squash.  Is anyone else just planting?  So far I've planted about 8 different tomato varieties, 2 different okra, black eyed peas, green beans, peas, 2 different edamame (I know I spelled this wrong :), 2 different onions, banana peppers, beets, radishes, cabbage and a couple other things.  So far just about everything has at least started to come up (except for the beets and the stuff I planted yesterday (cabbage, peppers, and radishes).  Oh, yeah, and I also have potato sprouts to plant - so I guess I'll need to till up 2 different areas . . . I don't like my food touching tongue2.gif

Oh, yeah, I had first first Maran egg hatch yesterday under a hen.  She's got 2 more under her, so I'm hoping for at least one more.  I was able to candle them last week and saw air sacs in 2 of them, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!

If there is ever a time that someone doesn't have anything to do, I will open my doors to anyone :)  There is always stuff and going on at my place !!

Also, I regret to inform everyone that the little rescue chick got mauled by one of the hunting dogs yesterday. It was a freak accident, but he was doing so good. If all Plymouth Rocks are as friendly as this little guy was I may end up getting some... Probably ( definitely ) not anytime soon, but one day.

Sorry to hear about the rescue chick. I was really rooting for that guy!

The similarity between the 5 chickens I have and the 60 teenages I work with is incredible...

Hey Everyone!!! I'm off Friday and am hoping for beautiful weather this weekend so I can plant more stuff and mow!  Hope everyone has a great day.  I had a hen hatch one Maran egg Sunday.  Last night when I checked on her (and was adding a incubator hatched chick from a friend) she had hatched another one.  This morning it looked like she had accepted the chick I added, but the second chick she hatched didn't look like it was going to make it.  I picked it up and put it back under her so I'll see how it's doing this evening. If it's still alive I may have to take it inside and see if I can raise it in the house for a week or two.

Helen: Daria, do you have to look at everything in such a negative light?

Daria: Could you possibly be referring to the harsh light of reality?

Might get the tail end of it here, if it doesn't fall apart.  Hope all are safe.  Awesome videos!

How did everyone hold up in the DFW area? All people ( and birds ) come out all right?
