What kind of dogs are the strays you have? Do you have pictures you could post and i can see what i can do to help.

Texans, I just recently found out about several ( I'm talking close to 100) ducks at the park  by the museum they're trying to find homes for. They have NO idea what to do with them. Went out there, and there's even geese! Mainly Muscovy's, a few ( a l o t ) of Peking, and a majority of them are drakes it appears. I hear people talking so casually about dumping animals there... and talked to the guy in charge. I figure we can maybe try and set up a date to get some picked up?

I'm going to catch any and all ducklings under the age of 6 months and quarantine them on the part of my property across the road ( with a pond ) - going to get back in touch with the director and see what all we can do. 

shesaredroan - I still haven't seen her. But I ran into one of her friends and posted a bulletin at work. I'm trying to spread the word for you.

Hi Texas Folks!  I'm brand new to the community, but have been reading tons on here for a while.  BYC is awesome for information for newbies like me!!  We are ready to get our first chicks hopefully this week and will pick up our coop/nestingbox/run tomorrow.  We live on two acres, but we want to start out small with four chickens.  The run is only about 5x6, so we'll probably eventually expand it, but they'll have plenty of opportunity to enjoy our land.  Here's my question:  I originally planned to get pullets that were close to laying age.  But it seems like most availability around here are chicks.  I'm open to this, but wonder where the best place is to get 4 chicks.  I have 3 daughters who would really like to "pick out" their own chicks, so someplace drive-able is preferred over ordering online.  Any recommendations for a place to buy from a reputable source in Central Texas?  I see a lot of you are from this area.  I'm just north of Austin.  Thanks for any help you can give me!!!

We''ve had a few storms come through and my broad band internet service has been on the blink.  Haven't been able to do anything online for a few days.

I really appreciate your offering to try and help with this yellow lab's situation.  

My dogs have befriended him...but he's afraid of me now, since I've shot my pistol (at the ground) and yelled at him GO HOME!!!!  My harsh behavior didn't start until after he started after my chickens.

About a year ago I was looking out my back door and saw him running down the fence line with one of my hens in his mouth.  I bolted out the back door chasing him and screaming at him...telling him he was lucky I didn't have my pistol with me...he ran under the gate and I climbed the gate and kept after him.  He ran to the front door of his 'vacant' home with me hot on his heels...as I got close he took off across the road...he NEVER goes across the road....He was really scared of me!!!  I was upset and he knew it!

When I rounded the corner and got to the front door of his vacant home I expected to find a dead bird....there was my speckled sussex hen walking back & forth, as if someone was going to let her in.  LOL  I had no idea she was still alive.  She was wet with slabber and very shaken up, but still alive....bless her heart...I scooped her up and carried her back home.  That's the only time I've saved a hen from him.  He's never killed my chickens just for sport....he eats them.  That makes a real difference to me.  Sport killing is a whole different behavior.

The last hen of mine he got was an olive egger (about 2 months ago)...when I found her there was only about 1/4 of the hen left AND a beautiful olive egg on the ground next to the remains.  She was about to give me a beautiful olive egg, but he got to her first.

My Pyrenees are super at keeping the coyotes and fox away from my flock, but because I was friendly with this lab in the beginning, my dogs don't see him as a threat.....my oldest pry (Mr. Biggles) is now 2 1/2 yrs old and coming into full maturity .....now when I see the lab on my place and I yell at the lab GO HOME...Biggles runs at the lab and seems to say in dog language "she doesn't want you here".  Mr Biggles is coming into his full male behavior.

Now I am less likely to fuss at the lab, because I don't want to cause a problem between Mr. Biggles and the lab.....ACK!!!  I feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place.
