Here are the pictures as promised, very disappointed in this hatch 4/17

I have never hatched less than 90% before.  I have heard that females

are hardier than males so maybe the will all be pullets.

Nope.  The blue eggs were all pure ameraucana.  They would be either splash or blue chicks.  The brown eggs were just added for fun and they were all EEs.  Any black chicks are EEs.  Blue or splash chicks have to be true AMs.

I'm sorry it was a bad hatch.  Did you candle before you lost power?  How many were developing at that point?

I'll take them outside  tomorrow and check for development. Power was only off for a hour and I covered incubator with blanket within a minute of outage total of a hour and a half before it was back to temp..  I'll tell you tomorrow what I find.

I candled my first 115 eggs, not as bad as I thought... get to be pretty good after that many eggs lau.gif I tossed 17 eggs and could have tossed 50-60, but most of them are Marans so I was just not really sure, but pretty sure.  I was surprised to see that ALL but 1 of my Lav, Lav Split eggs where developing clap.gif now if I can get them to hatch... are Ameraucanas just harder to get a good hatch rate... those and my Marans/Olive Eggers have just been bad.... So that was good and bad news, I am not as panicked as I was .... tongue.png

Anne do your EE all have beards and muffs?  I need more bearded/muffed EE.  I think I only have two now.... I know I will have plenty down the road.  Are they reg EE or non standard Ameraucana colors?

All of my first generation EEs have beards and muffs.  Last summer I tried crossing a 1st gen rooster back into the mix and I got all kinds of random stuff.  He's gone off to Camp Kenmore though, so I'm back to pure 1st gen EE hatches now.

Both my AM pen and my EE pen have ameraucana roosters so all of the offspring come out with buffs and beards. The splash rooster is over a couple of barred rocks (in the AM pen) and the black rooster is over an assortment of large fowl hens (buff orps, welsummers, wyandottes, wheaten marans, barred rocks, etc).  I will tell you though that there was an errant gene in the AM pen last year and I had one EE come out laying brown eggs.  The splash rooster is new this season though, so I'm not sure what his offspring will be like.  I haven't done an EE hatch yet.  That is next up on the roster.  I have AMs and olive eggers in the bator right now.

The only non-standard AMs that I am doing right now are the splash.  smile.png

I am planing on getting 25-30 chicks around the end of march and I was looking for hatcheries in my area and I found this one  http://www.poultryhollow.org/p1.htm  Poultry Hollow Hatchery it is only about 2-2 1/5  hours away from my house. So I was wondering if any of you have ever bought from these people? and are they reputable?
