Planning hatches, selling eggs, selling roos, selling chicks, buying feed and pine shavings, cleaning, moving chickens, getting water from the creek because it is not raining much and SWEATING while I do it!

 

Now is the time to sell chicks so I can't stop hatching... I may wish I had if I don't sell some soon.  I have a batch going into lockdown on Friday.... candled and counted today 161 eggs still good th.gifI removed a roo and thought the eggs wouldn't still be fertile and they ALL are...... Most of these are going to be for sale so that is good, if they sell.  I don't really have many extras to sell now.  I figure if I get rid of the roos and grow up the pullets I will make more money down the road so it is all good.

DMrippy i need to figure out what some of your chickens are. Then i can just all of mine from you if you have any available. I keep bounceing back and forth in my mind from new hatched to a little older. I really want them as young as possible. I just dont want a bunch of cockriels. I wouldnt mind a few as i could cull some later. You have some really nice looking birds on your paghe but nothing that indicates what type they are. ???? any help? I'm looking to get a total of about 10 maybe 12, i figure i'll get atleast a few cockreils out of them. But i really want good laying hens. any advice ?and do you have that many that you could sell me? i know i'm frustrating. I just need some place to keep them till the coop is done.

I can hatch anything anytime.  So if you want babies I can arrange that when you are ready if you want older birds I can do that too.

 

Here is a link to all my breeds... I need to check that and see if it is up to date, but should be pretty close.

Just do some searches.  I personally, if I could only pick one breed for laying, it would be the New Hampshires.  They lay pretty well and large eggs.  I also like my Cuckoo Marans for eating eggs.... BIG eggs and good layers too.  I like each one for different things.  The Marans would be a good meat bird and the Rocks too.  I like colored eggs so I am trying to make me some Super Blue Egg Layers too.

Raven - Just wanted to let you know one of the Blue Marans I hatched from you is laying like a champion. I only had room for one so I gave a buddy the other pullet and culled a couple roos. I get a dark brown eggs just about every day.

Les - husband, father, teacher, coach, musician, gardener and chicken addict.

Chickens: Buff Orpington, Blue Marans, Delaware, Easter Egger, Olive Egger, Rhode Island Red, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Speckled Sussex and a Welsummer.

It will be interesting to see this one grow. She was in my Exchequer Leghorn pen. If its a pullet I wonder what color her eggs will be!

ok just figured out my time frame for finishing he coop. 4 - 22 it should be done. by then i'll have pretty much everything but the fine tuneing done. Permenant feeders water system etc.... i'll have moveable feeders and water sys. till i get a few more ideas sorted out. if you want to plan for that weekend or the next for chicks if you can that would work for me. if it takes you longer no big deal.

Last year, on a whim, I got 2 turkey poults at Columbia Farm Supply on Bear Creek Pike.  I believe their are broad breasted bronze.  It has been fun watching them grow but I have no intention of harvesting them.  They have gotten very aggressive, which is OK for my healthy chickens, guineas, ducks, and geese.  But I since I volunteer at a wildlife rehab center I have several disabled birds who cannot get out of the way of bullies.  I would like to re-home these 2 birds.  They are big babies with humans but are disturbing the harmony of my flock.
 
I apologize in advance if this is not the proper way to do this, but last time I checked I was too new to use the Buy/Sell/Trade forum.
