Also on the sexing ,after they start feathering out the pulleys will get tail feathers first. If you have some that have short stubby wings and no feathers on the butt then they will be Roos.this is really obvious in he heavy breeds.

Can you believe it is getting so cold ! I had to bring the brooder tub with the youngest chicks in the house out of the shed. They just weren't staying warm enough. I have been fighting sticky butts so bad! Just not haveing much luck with the chicks this spring for some reason. Except for a batch of mutt chicks I got at an auction, they have done great! Says something for the hybrid factor I guess!

Does anyone know of someone who raises frill back pigeons? I need to locate a breeder here in middle Tn if I can.

Okay, so I have a broody Marans hen...I'm gonna give her until Saturday and see if she'll leave the nest. If not I'm going to let her hatch a few eggs. I know a few of you on here have fertile eggs so I'm wondering who all has what. I only need 6-12 eggs and will pay. Thanks!

Just curious what does everyone feed their chickens ? What brand & type of feed ? I plan to start my chicks on a meficated feed, or have read that I should. What's your opinion? & what do you feed your grown chickens.

I have a brood Marans too.... She is sticking pretty tight.... I am going to try to move her tomorrow and give her some pre incubated eggs... to speed things along cool.png She has been sitting for several days.  She has not been mean or anything.  I would love to see what she can do.  I think they will be better babies with a mommy.

I am looking for a few ducklings- preferably something dark colored (because lighter ones on my farm seem to fall prey to coyotes eventually). Does anyone have (NPIP) ducklings for sale? Also, I am sort of in incubation limbo right now because my inlaws in NC are doing poorly and I may be called to NC any time for a funeral, so am reluctant to start my incubator. I have dozens of exotic breed eggs in my fridge that need to be incubated soon. I have had really good luck incubating these eggs up to 4 weeks after refrigeration. If anyone is interested, I have Polish Crested (White Crested Black and Gold Laced), Silkie, Frizzled Cochin (black and white), Auracana, Mille Fleur and a few Sumatra eggs that need incubator homes! I am NPIP!

Mine was pretty mean tonight when I took the eggs away from her. She still didn't budge. Very vocal. She's been on the nest for a couple days for sure.

W.Morton, I wish I could take some of those eggs off your hands but my incubator is a little full right now.  Donna, I was a little impatient and candled about half of your eggs tonight.  There was only one I would call clear, of course I couldn't see squat in the Olive Eggers, Marans, or the Lavenders.  Otherwise I would say that they all appear to be doing great.  I am anxious to see how many hatch and nervous about how many might.

The Olive Eggers are the worst!  I can't even see the light through the eggs and I use a 400 lumens flashlight.  All I can tell on the Marans and Ameraucanas is if they are dark wink.png  I just look for clear eggs at 14 days.

Help!

Last year I foolishly got 2 turkey poults at Columbia Farm Supply.  It was fun to watch to watch them grow.  But recently they have become so aggressive with my other birds that I was thinking of finding a new home for them.  Yesterday I had to put the tom up because he came up on the front porch and the back deck and was harrassing my dogs!

I put up flyers in Spring Hill Co-op and a couple of TSCs telling people to call me with an offer.

Now the hen has laid an egg.  I really don't want more turkeys.  Would someone like to have them?  I think they are big breasted bronze.
