telling the difference between hens and roosters

Thanks for your reply. I live in the city and we're not allowed to have roosters. He's gotta go.

I have two barred rocks that are six months old, and one is smaller, yet darker and has a deeper color in its comb, and the comb is bigger. cant tell if I have a rooster or not. any ideas? I also have three Rhode island reds, and one has a deep red and large comb.

With the barred rocks, I've noticed that the pullets tend to have a lot more black on their feathers than the cockerels. The cockerels are almost all white, you can look at many pictures online.
