no internal pip on day 20

I'm still kind of a newby, but if it helps, here's what I did. I drilled a hole in mine (carefully, away from all the wiring) and inserted a piece of 1/2" pvc at an angle. I put a 45 degree angle on the bottom aimed down into my reservoir and a threaded male fitting and cap on the top (outside the bator). Now I can unscrew the cap, add warm water with a funnel, then put the cap back on. The great thing is it gives me an extra ventilation source for that critical "lockdown" period. After loosing some chicks in my first hatch that had internally pipped but didn't hatch, I did some research and found that people sometimes make the mistake of DECREASING ventilation to increase humidity, and this can actually suffocate the chicks since not only do they use the air pocket, but the shells are also porous and allow air to pass through. Reduce the air flow and you force the chicks to use up the air stored in the bubble without any way to replenish it. Next hatch, I had the pipe in place and swapped out my reservoir for one half again as large right at lockdown. Humidity stayed up even with the pvc cap off, and all my pips successfully hatched. Since then, I've had two more hatches (different bator but same design) and I currently have 30 eggs on day 5 of another hatch.

That sounds like an awesome idea. I'd love to do something very simillar to that. I'll have to decide whether I am going to ultimately keep this bator or end up sellin it to help pay for the one with the bigger window.

If I need to up the Humidity I use a HUGE syringe and squirt it thru the air vent, water gots all over but the humidity goes up

Thanks, great tip. I really want to drill an aquarium tubing size hole in the top and run a tube into there. Not sure if I will screw it up though so I've been hesitant.

What kind of incubator do you have? I have a Little Giant stroform and there are two red vent plugs. I just remove a vent plug and put the aquariam tubing through it and down into a water channel, this is working great for me ... since I need to add water almost daily it seems. Now I don't have to open the bator.

We have the Hovabator 2362N for the time being. Just talked the DW into upgrading though real soon. Anyways, yea I have those same plugs as well. I couldn't find any clean tubing around here in that size so I just used a funnel and filled up the one reservoir and got the humidity up to around 75%. This has worked good but a few eggs are resting in the water slightly. The water that splashed on the rest of them evaporated rather soon. As mentioned in my latest topic though, I have yet to hear or see anything that remotely could be described as a pip. This is helping along the convincing of the DW to go for the upgrade though so good will come of this eventually.
