I lost all my chickens to dog attacks from 2007 to 2010. A total of about 4 dog attacks

The most recent was on Christmas eve 2010, I miss raising chickens but I'm not getting none until I build a dog proof coop

I don't have a job so it will take me years to get the money

Anyway, here are some pics of ALL the chickens I've raised since 2007 including my first chickens ever

The reason why it says "J-Skittles" is because that used to be my old username.

So sorry you lost your chickens.......the only suggestions I can give is to use a electric fence...... all the time...It seems to me that your step father should help with this...it's only right thing to do! I wouldn't even make the suggestion to him tho......if he doesn't care. But we know and care wish I could help.... look for some inexpensive fixes with the electric fence in mind.. work on it... it will help. The predator that wiped out my flock was a wild pig, and no one would help me either. But in the end we killed the pig! He had no fear of humans and it took a very large gun to kill him... Good luck and don't give up!

I feel the hurt! I, too, lost the first 30 birds I raised (to 10 weeks old) to a dog attack. The worst part was that of the 4 dogs, 2 were MINE!! I immediately got 12 more chicks and have kept them in the coop since mid June 2010. They have not been outdoors since cause I have not yet been able to build them a predator proof run. That will happen in the next 2 months, though. Get your coop and run proofed for ALL predators and be vigilant about checking it often to make sure it holds up. It is well worth the effort.

My condolences to you and yours.

Due to your money issue I would suggest looking on craigslist or your local paper in the give away/free sections. Never know what you will find there. Someone might have some old junk laying around that could be turned into a nice coop/pen. I'd suggest having the wire down in the dirt far enough that the dogs might give up on trying to dig under it or have the whole floor wired. Definitely check the free sections though. After you get a nice area build you might be able to find some free chickens as well.
