Black Copper Marans discussion thread - Page 445

I would use your best bird and just cull chicks at hatch with the stubs or feathers plenty of people just want dark egg layers so I sell them easily. Just to know if you show a bird with middle toe stubs it will be DQ'd...I'm using one and most of his chicks are just fine like you said we gotta start someplace big_smile.png

It costs less to have the very best. Trying to raise Delawares and Marans I also have Silver Penciled Rocks New Hampshires Midget Whites Bourbons and Royal Palms......home of many APHA horses. Breeder of World Champions and Honor Roll Champions and High Point winners. I love to trail ride and camp with my friends.

I follow this thread and I think it says that the middle toe feathers is a fault?  But it does list stubs as a DQ.  What does that mean?  Maybe stubs are somewhere else besides middle toe?

feathers on the middle toe would be referred to as stubs have you ordered a SOP yet? Very good investment even if you find an older one even the new book only has Marans on a printed sheet too new to get into the book...it tells you and has drawings of faults and DQ's explains colors too

OK this is what I think... Stubs without a feather are a DQ, maybe because it could have had a white feather that was cut or something to cheat???? OR maybe that means no feathers just stubs.... IDK???  No feathers down the outside toe is a DQ too.  Middle toe feathers are a fault. You should ask on that thread to get clarification.

Yes I did order one!  yesss.gif  It is the 2010 version.  The black coppers will not be in it will they?

Just waiting for it to get shipped to me.  It will probably only take 6 weeks....since I am on the moon and all.  lol   Hopefully it won't really take that long...

Guess we need a definition of stubbs vs feathers.  I had read the SOP as listed in post #1, and the information there has middle toe feathering as a fault, not a DQ.

Hi Pink!

Sorry,  have been so busy with work, farm, pups etc., I don't get over here as often as I'd like to. Thanks for the kind welcome back goodpost.gif

Yes, it was extremely windy that day (I noted that further into the photos where some roos' tail feathers were vertical ep.gif when in actuality, they are not).

thank you for commenting on the birchens.  Geebs was interested in him but never got back in contact with me so I guess I will take him off freezer camp row and put him back in with some girls to see what we come up with.

I see the yellow leakage and hoped to clean that up but have had to put the Marans breeding program on the back burner for now he.gif

There are more photos off that FB link I provided but not sure if too many more of the birchens.

Thanks again!! yippiechickie.gif
