Hi all,

My one year old curly goose laid very well early in the season but we almost lost her mate to a coyote attack in broad daylight. (Have remedied that problem with livestock guardian dogs) But she quit laying for several weeks I am assuming due to the stress of the attack. Now she has laid 2 eggs, one in the pool, ugh, which I put in her nest in hopes that she would get the memo and the second she actually laid in the nest but it is oddly shaped. Now she has gone broody on these two bummed eggs!! Is it too late in the season to get fertile eggs to put under her? Will I be able to do a swap and will she accept them? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Aww!  White sebbies!  My DD just found out she can only show white sebs in 4H apparently, and we are getting colors.  She gets her own money in 4 days, if you have any left, I'll be getting in contact with you maybe.  You can PM me if you want.

Why don't sheep shrink in the rain?

Why is there brail at drive up ATMs??

Why are their floatation devices instead of parachutes in my airplain seat???

If a tree falls in the woods and my husband doesn't hear it, am I still wrong????

Marty if they are going by the American SOP then she can only show white CURLy Sebastopols as they are the only ones actually recognized. Double check with the local 4H, but if they are saying white it sounds like they are going by the SOP.

Oh, oops, I guess these won't work them.  Sorry!  Thanks for the heads up Celtic, she would have been very disappointed to have the right color, but still not show seb.

Marty/Celtic- I am confused. Gracie9205s birds are all curly except one that is smooth breasted. Don't people breed in smooth breasted to improve type and often the offspring are still curly. The rest of the birds in that picture are all curly?

You are correct!  My smooth gander throws better feathered offspring than my curly surprisingly enough.  He is a bit cranky, but he sure makes nice babies!

I maybe confused as well.  I don't understand all sebbie genetics, but I think it maybe commen to cross them, with mostly curly offspring possible.  Have they hatched out offspring before?  What percentage were all curly last time?

Using smoothis very common, we do it too. At the age those goslings are though you don't know if they are curly or smooth. You can't show a smooth since they are not currently reccognized in the SOP. So to buy a day old white with a possible smooth parent would give a chance of a smooth off spring. Smooth is smooth breasted, not smooth all over, but they couldn't be shown. I wish the American SOP would catch up with the times since smooth and buffs both are reccognized over seas.

Gracie has nice adults, and using the smooth is thought to help avoid twisted wing tip. The babies would have to be starting to feather to know if they would be smooth or curly though. Both are useful for breeding, only the curly whites are reccognized by the SOP.
