Best Dual Purpose Breeds?

American Game, Rhode Island Reds, Dominiques, Javas, and Sussex all would make good Dual Purpose breeds but, I feel it will be hard to get much better than the American Game Fowl as a all round Best Dual Purpose Breed.

I will also recommend getting your bird from a breeder. Hatchery birds are smaller, and punier than the same breed bred by a breeder.

I vote for the Buff Orpington also. I did a lot of research for a dual purpose breed that could forage & raise chicks plus give me eggs & meat. This was it. The are also supposed to be cold hardy.
 
Buckeyes, good layers, very nice meat birds, and they are the most active American breed!
Others I would recommend are Plymouth rocks, Java, orpingtons, wyandottes, RIR, Sussex, australorp and there are plenty more.
