Woohoo!! Fresh meat... er, members!! Welcome all newbies to our little East TN thread. Feel free to continue conversing amongst each other, and comment freely! We're a great group of peeps who will help out the best we can wink.png So many fresh new faces!

Bairo is the brains of this thread, he's usually got a good answer for everything. bow.gif The rest of us try to keep up and chime in when we can.

Update: My baby mini lop bunnies have opened their eyes!! My friend who has a doe fostering the babies, said she walked in and they were everywhere, and one was chasing Gin (the foster doe) around the cage! <3 I also had to take in 2 bunnies from my aunt, who found out after getting a brother and sister mixed rex buns, she's badly allergic. The doe gave birth to 5 babies today (yes, it's the brothers babies, I don't have the heart to kill them though, they are healthy looking) out in the cold weather and I had to bring them in and warm them up in a robe on a heat pad. They're still alive and now warmed up and with the doe in a travel carrier in the back room. All 7 have been found a new home, will be dropping them off tomorrow.

I must have the "furry creature fever" and the chickens aren't furry enough! I'm trying to talk DH into letting me have some chinchillas.... hide.gif

So far I've got him sold on the fact they're pretty low odor if you do a weekly cleaning, and they're hypo allergenic and flea resistant because of their dense fur! The hurdle is the cage and where in the house it'd go... and having to keep the house under 78 degrees through the summer... since they don't sweat they can't stand high temps... We'll see how it goes if I can save up enough money to afford one of those expensive cages!

Hannah - Married to my very patient husband (who wishes I wouldn't own so many creatures), 1 diluted calico cat, 5 mini lops (I may have babies for sale so check my website out!), 4 mini rex, 1 Cochin Roo Frederick, 2 cochin pullets (1 frizzle and 1 standard) Frizz and Frazz, 1 cochin hen, 2 black australorp hens, and 1 deleware hen Ninja.

Chinchillas are awesome, I have had mine, a female normal grey for about 2 years now. She was given to me because someone I used to work with's daughter got her and no longer was interested. They have things you can buy to help them regulate their body temp better, one option is a peice of granite basically, another is a little mini heating pad that is rodent safe. And if you havent seen a chinchilla take a dust bath you dont know what your missing, its so funny though I advise going the ceramic dust holder route as opposed to the plastic ones they looovvvee to chew.

Well its official we will be starting the bators next monday with various silkies and black OEs. Possibly mallard eggs but my mallard has only laid one egg. Cant wait til the geese and turkeys start laying. If anyone has a male white call or knows someone locally who does I am in need of one as last year I had 4 call ducks trying to brood nests faster than I could break them up, very upset little ducks they were.

HEHE!! My friend has like 8 or more, she has like 3 set ups for them... I'm looking at cages but they're expensive, the one I want is $250! OUCH!! I've looked on CL, but nothing has caught my eyes yet. I havn't watched one take a sand bath, but I'm sure it's fun! They're sooo soft!

Have you looked at plans to build one? That might be a slightly cheaper and more customized alternative. When we brought Chichi home the people had her in a plastic bottom cage and she was eating it but all is well now. Putting a chinchilla in a plastic cage is like putting a sugar glider in a cage with sliding doors, they will get out sooner or later unless you tie the doors lol.
