There is one in (dare I say it) Cookeville... it is ok... mostly bantams. If you are into bantams it would be worth your drive (depending on your location in ETN)... but if you are a LF person... you wouldn't be as happy there.

Then there is one in NC... just over the border in Morganton... actually closer to ETN then cookeville.

i just go to the morristown auction  as its the closest and only one i knew about aside from weekly one on way to family in newport or around jefferson (actually first place i saw seramas, and they were actually beautiful), that i can get to.   sometimes the stuff a first monday is stuffed in horribly ad bid to get people to buy to get out of sun in heat and save from dehydration, but they take good care of them at home usually.  its TN, and i dont see most people even caring for their animals as well as these are a worst, so figured it was area and cultural thing, as most say if its not loose and can take care of itself, its just something more to have to feed (were i usually ask why they have pets then anyway at all, and they usually say someone got them, but no one wants to take care of, so just waiting for them to die so can get rid of, or going to kill ot of boredom or annoyance, or just for fun, and get some more after).

keeping assorted bantams and standard chickens..    pigeons: "white dove release" racing homers, flying flights, flying birmingham rollers, parlor rollers, parlor tumblers, "coop tumblers", Chinease owls.

Looking to talk to others who enjoy our pigeon/dove hobby.  Also looking to talk chickens, especially black bantam true rosecombs i hope to have again someday, as well as silkies, and...

I know what you mean. I am a Army brat and thus... did not spend my early years here. I lived mainly outside of DC on the Maryland side. MUCH different as far as how animals are treated then here. Also my mother is European and they have to pay taxes on each pet so people there really WANT their pets and care for them... no "because it was cute at the flea market" buys there.

It kinda is a cultural thing... the further out is the "sticks" you go the more of that you will see. There is a chicken trade in Madisonville, and I will not take LF roos there. I have been flat out told most of those people there are also at the fighting rings and even a docile breed roo will be used as a trainer for a game to learn to keep fighting until they are dead on. So, I know exactly what you mean. I rather eat the extra roos that don't sell and KNOW they had a respectful end, then have them go like that.

BUT we aren't supposed to talk about ___fighting.... but let's face facts... this is the ETN thread and it's everywhere here.

I can understand the rule of not promoting it in the forum or discussing how, when, or where.... but to never be allowed to even mention it, even in a negative "watch out for this place" way?!?!?

Anywho. Yes, I know what you are saying. I work at TSC and get alot of "why do I need all this stuff for chicks? I just set them out." - just got that one yesterday.

i'm not sure what the rules are in general.....but I pers. don't mind a little good bashing against it. I live in the middle of it in Cocke County....but I certainly am not opposed to speaking out against it and neither is our new Sheriff (thank goodness we got rid of one of the "good ole boys" with the exit of the last sheriff) I love the character and the history of where I live, but some of the crap needs to stop. Now moonshine thats a diff. story (see, I can compromise)   ya

Comprimise... that is a good way of putting it! lol.

Yes, we are not supposed to even bash it - not for long at least... a blip here or there we will get away with it. lol.

I agree completely... that stuff does need to stop. And there is alot of crooked "good ol boy" cops and sherriffs around... even heard rumors of certain ones partaking in "tussling" of the kanine and gallus kind. *boy we are getting around the "searches"*

I have to say I am so glad we bought where we did.  Hubbies driving partner lives in Sneedville and got a call from parents saying dogs were fighting over human arm.  YIKES.  I would move fast if that showed up on my place.  We were looking at property there at one time.  Cock fighting seems so less an issue compared to the drugs ect.  I know I was told that if you want a good lawyer get one in VA.  Most here are on the good by network and will not help you if it is about something local.  My experiances with local cops have been good but I have heard first hand accounts from other places.

now oddly if you look at things its sad the tussling birds here especially the mexicans bird's are treated better than most animals, aside from the end, but the good old boy laid back (lazy) attitude in general of old promoted and happily hopefully finally dying out, and imports are showing an animal is worth something as well as people, even if it doesnt have immediate value to keep it lingering alive only.  i have some cop friends in general area, and they are great people, but ive met very few cops who werent worn down by what they saw when first starting out probly.  on other hand... human arm fought over by dogs! hahahahhaha  sounds like bybee cock county, in the fall and spring (when the foliage is low, and all the bodies and even a semi was found from the season before).

so what do we all do for fun in this area, besides our chook hobby, and bashing those who abuse it?
