Coughing Chickens?

Had a couple of hens given to me, they started coughing a couple of days ago. No nasal discharge, no sneezing, very healthy appetite and drinking. I started treatment with terramycin. One died yesterday.

Read the article on corzya but not sure if its that because they all eat very well and are active.

Any help on a more aggressive treatment would be appreciated. Oh and yes, it did infect the 3 chicks I had in there that were previously not coughing.

It could be infection bronchitis.

Check with your university extension or state agricultural program to see if there is a state facility that does free necropsies. You can take the dead bird or the sickest bird to them to find out what is wrong with them.

My chickens are doing the same thing. It started out with birds becoming paralyzed and dying. I separated the last couple after I figured out it wasn't injuries. Now I have a coop full of coughing, snotting birds. The rooster sounds pitiful when he crows. I started them on Terramycin in the water.

I also contacted our MO Dept Of Ag and they referred me to the University. They will necropsy for free. I brought them a dead hen (died last night) and one that was coughing (I didn't have anymore that were paralyzed, they all died). The one that was alive laid an egg in the crate she was in on the way to the vet. I felt so bad having her killed. I am still waiting on the results.
 
I had a flock of Delawares that had no coughing but went paralyzed, slowly, one by one they died. I had the state bird lady out and she said they appeared healthy otherwise. I've since read up on the poison used to kill wild birds feeding in commercial corn crops - and the symptoms were exactly the same. This poison, if not handled correctly, could have gotten mixed in with the crop, used as feed, and according to the manufacturer website, will kill domestic poultry.
