McHenry Co. IL Ordinance Change

I think that's a great idea. We should figure something out. I'm not aware of anything else on this site focused on our area. This thread has been going for a few years and has probably caught the attention of local chicken people. This might be your best avenue at this point. Let's all meet for drinks sometime at Duke's Ale House. Any thoughts? I haven't gotten my girls yet. I just got my coop plans and will be starting construction soon.

Yes, we are just starting with coop building too, although our brooder box is ready. I'm hoping to get a variety of chicks to try out. Some sort of meet up or even a page about others doing the same would great...We love Duke's and it'd be great to talk chickens (although we have young kids too, so getting "out" is challenging sometimes!). :)

Hi! I'm new to this site! I live in the town of Woodstock, il. Can I have backyard chickens?
Thanks!

Hi all, I live in Algonquin, IL within city limits and was wondering if anyone would know how i go about attempting to get the city to allow backyard chickens? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Do some Google searches for organizations and individuals that have lobbied other towns, since the argument and counter arguments are going to be the same many of these organizations and individuals will share their 'attack plans' basically giving you a how to as well as in many cases providing complete document packets to counter any of the same concerns that are always brought up...

One approach that I have see that appears to garnish more media attention and favorable media attention is to find some 'youths' in your area that are interested in 4H or just wanting to have chickens and use them in your arguments in favor of allowing chickens...

I'll help you. Someone mentioned 4H on this thread to help the argument. I don't recommend this, as you need to emphasize people that want to keep chickens want to keep them for the long haul, not just to see the chicks grow up. Feel free to contact me! [email protected].

4H is not limited to just hatching eggs or raising small chicks, this is a common misconception... There are many 4H programs devoted to raising chickens for meat and eggs, showing chickens, maintaining 'backyard flocks' and even breeding chickens... In the end many of these 4H projects are no different then what the backyard chicken keeper will be doing and are 'long haul' or even lifetime projects...
