I have been fighting with a similar issue for 2 months now....first my chickens started sounding like they had whooping cough, I treated with fenbendozole...then they got upper respiratory congestion so I treated with erythromycin.  As soon as they came off the antibiotics they became worse.  Wormed again with fenbendozole and put them on penicillin.  Started improving but as soon as they came off the antibiotics they again became worse.  Now have them on tetracycline and some seem better but others have started the whooping and gaping again.  I have lost 6 hens who I believe "drowned" with the congestion.  They have all had diarrhea at one time or another...I am at my wits end.  Have cleaned their coop and treated with bleach, changed their bedding to sand from sawdust and changed their feed to a different supplier.  Any suggestions would be appreciated as my next step will be to euthanize the sickest birds and send them to the government agent for autopsy.  This whole thing is breaking my heart and my pocket book.
