I went to the feed store I ordered my chicks through today to ask what I should have asked when I ordered them...

Do you vaccinate them? (I can request it, & pay for it)
When will you get your starter feed in? (Shortly before the chicks)
Which hatchery are they coming from? (Dunlap)

So now my question is...Has anyone ever ordered from them before? They're located in Idaho, so at least I know they aren't coming from too far away! But, it wasn't a hatchery I "investigated" before placing my order! Anyway, if anyone has used them before, I'd love to know what your experience was!

My local feed store carries chickens from Dunlap Hatchery. This feed store sells 18,000 chicks each year and the owner has been raising chickens for 50 years, so he's serious about chickens. Dunlap's website states that they have been in business since 1918. Hope this helps!

Yep, I ran through the site...just wondered if anyone has any of their birds, lol. I'm getting 2 SLWs and 1 BR on March 16th!

Hopefully the brooder will be as easy as I'm thinking it will be to finish up...I just started contruction on the coop this afternoon! I need the run up before I can finish the brooder...I don't want to leave myself short of hardware cloth for the run because I put a piece on the brooder, lol.

my local feed store used to carry chicks from them not sure why they dont still. I had chicks from them in the past as well as ducks and I ordered goose eggs and all three that i ordered hatched. I was happy with them and actually this summer I am driving up there to buy some breeders after they stop hatching.

I worked at Big r in Spokane for almost two years and the babies we got from Dunlap usually did better in shipping than the ones from McMurray. I've got about 50/50 McMurray birds and Dunlap birds from last spring and everyone's doing well. In addition, Dunlap's Brit reds are awesome. Pick one up if you've got room. That being said I ordered 125 from McMurray this year because they had a better selection of rare breeds.

What is a Brit Red? I ordered from Aslin-Finch (I still haven't found Big R!), they don't list any reds except RIR...I know I don't want those, lol.

I got my Brit Red from Aslin Finch last year. It's basically an improved Rhode Island Red that was bred by Brit farms and only Dunlap has them. It looks exactly like a Rhode Island Red and the major difference is that they're extremely docile and the flightiness that rir's have acquired over the years has been bred out of them. They're super sweet and very good layers.

That does sound like a nice bird...maybe A-F is just selling them as RIR? I have space for 2 more chickens on my property, per city ords...but I'm trying to save that space for some pretty egg layers, like EE or Welsummers or something in the Marans category...

I know this is an older thread, I live in Middleton, just down the street from Dunlap and thats where I got 4 of my 7 chicks, the other three came from McMurray. Having said that.. When I picked up the first chicks, a lt brahma, a SLW, a BO, and an "Araucana" ie easter egger.
The Lt Brahma died the next day and they replaced it for me. The "Araucana" turned out to be a SLW also so now I have 2 and it is still undertimined if either of those are roos and that is what the consensus on here is that they both are. I think one is a roo and one is a pullet but they were supposed to be sexed as hatchlings... That is my experience. At least the customer service was good when I had to replace my Lt Brahma. I am happy they carry any poultry supply I might need though and I just have to go down the street to get it.
