Anyone have any luck rehoming their ducks into responsible homes?
My husband just found out last week that he got a job he wanted and have just under 2 weeks (moving March 5!) now to get all of our crap together and move about 7 hours away. We were able to secure a pet friendly apartment for us and our dog and find a place to board my two horses, but I'm really doubting I will find a place to keep my ducks. I posted an ad on craigslist trying to sell all 5 ducks and their supplies for $40. So far I've gotten people I'm afraid are only interested in eating them and people who aren't interesting in paying and just want to throw them in their ponds. I'm amazed at the number of people who don't realize that domestic ducks cannot fly and even if they could, they don't have the survival skills to make it the wild!! It's just driving me crazy! I know people just don't understand, but really? If you're thinking about getting an animal shouldn't you at least do some research on their care first??! Anyone have any luck selling quality, pet ducks to good homes?

Also, I don't know if this is allowed, but if anybody on this board is interested in them, I would be willing to give them to a responsible home. My ducks are located in Newport, NC and I would be willing to travel 1-2 hours to ensure their safety. 5 ducks total (as previously stated). 2 pekin drakes, 1 cayuga hen, 1 khaki campbell hen, and 1 welsh harlequin hen. The hens are from Metzer Farms and the drakes were bred locally. The drakes are about 8 months old and the hens are about 6 months, so they should start laying soon. I would really like to keep these guys together but will seperate if necessary. Again, I'm sorry if this is considered advertising and is not allowed. If that's the case, then Mods please remove this post.

Maybe the place boarding the horses could board the ducks temporarily? Years ago my house burned down and I had a stable that was willing to take my goats on as well as my horses...

There is a horse and livestock association in my town - they are great contacts for people who may have a little extra room in the barn. Perhaps there is some group like that, even a local F.F.A.?

Hopefully someone will respond to this! I got some ducks and geese from someone on this list that were looking for a home.

I wish we were closer - I would love to have your WH hen for my WH drake. <3

But, I am in central Florida - a little too far to drive for either of us, I am afraid. :-(

Thanks for everyone's support and for those who offered to help me out in my duckie delima. Forunately, I've found homes for the little quackers where I hope they will be happy and healthy for some time to come!

Hi everyone....I have a question, and hope I can get some suggestions on what to do with our American Pekin Drake.

Okay, so I have a super soft heart, and rescued him from a couple that had to relocate to Germany. I drove 5 hrs one way to pick him up.

We currently have a total of 7 ducks (6 that we got as ducklings), 2 drakes and 5 females. I know that Drakes will fight over the females, but he is getting where he runs after me when I am walking away and biting my leg, and is always grabbing this one specific chicken by the neck. I don't know what to do. We have ancona ducks that we would like to experience hatching eggs this spring, and I am afraid how he will be.

I know I need to re-home him, but how do I know that he is going to a good home and not just someone who is going to eat him? I'm located in Central Illinois.
