What do you think a week? I figure the chicken at the store is much older than that. I have two I didn't eat/sell/freeze and I am trying to decide if they can stay a bit longer or need freezer time asap.
After trying different amounts of time, we now let them sit 3-4 days. Any less time and they just don't seem to pull apart even when they're fully cooked.
I've kept them in the fridge for 9 days before. The giblets didn't last (smelled "off"), but the chicken meat did. So that's about as long as I'd let it sit without freezing. My personal preference for tasting best and most tender is 3-4 days.
