Needless  to say  count  2 birds   per person  (coturnix jumbos) or  bobs   for a meal.  That,s  plenty,  or one  for a snack  or  not so hungry   peron.

They are all  heavenly   meal  (meat)  coturnix,  bobs,   and  chukars.

Yes Chukars,  big  plump  Chukars.   With those  you  need  only  one per hungry  man.

Always remember  that . . . .

Good  Lord  made birds  of meat   for us  to eat.

Again,  there  is no  1 lb    coturnix bird.

Honestly,     unless  you are   gourmet  eater,   there is not enough  meat on quail  to  justify  plucking  (sorry  guys  without  skin  those birds  are losers)   and working  eating   them.

Kind like  eating  fish containing   bone.

Another word  only for folks  willing to do some  work   processing  and  eating  them    in exchange  for  a  hedonic  fulfillment  of delicacy  and taste.

If anybody asks  again "why  raise quail"     I'd  say     DON'T.

Unless  you   are willing   to  accept    that:

Good Lord  did not make  all birds equal  but   he made  all  quails  of better   meat  in exchange  for size!     LOL

You know I dress 6 coturnix yesterday. I pulled off the skin and save only the breast and legs. This was my second time to dress quail and did them really fast. We are not big eaters, but sure it will take at least two per person and the taste is similar to chicken. We really plan to raise them for their eggs and have had a nice garden this winter in my greenhouse using manure from the quail. You only live once so I feel that if you even think you would like to do something then give it a try.

I'm selling frozen quail meat in my country.  Usually we get 160-200gram of meat from  28-32 days old coturnix that we slaughter, some 5% less than 160g and 5% more than 200gram.  With no head, inside organs and no feet, only carcass with skin.  Weight of live quail before slaughtered is around 200-300gram
