mine are great egg layers. But skiddish crazy freaks lol.png. I only have 1 chicken out of 80-90 whatever the number is that will let me hold her. But then I just don't do that.

I'm always shocked how people take something typed on a forum so personally :) If I say it here I have done it. No Bull poop from me. I'm not arguing, I'm stating what I see in MY flock of 10 years.I'm NOT P.C. If that offends please just block me :)

I am probably going to be moving babies and mom outside to the coop tomorrow. We will see though. The egg I gave her a few days ago seems to have been abandoned. I even contemplated walking around with it in my shirt to keep it warm, but I doubt it will hatch (hatch date is apparently tomorrow). If an egg gets to cold a few days before hatch, is it totally done for?

They can still hatch, just a little later. You could try it.

Wow that's a lot of WLs.

I guess I should clarify that by "lets me hold her" I don't mean to cuddle, I just mean she doesn't take off like a rocket at my mere presence like my Ameraucana will do, but instead can be caught up and inspected without my losing a finger.

She's definitely not as sweet as my Lavender Orpingtons who love to be picked up. Or as sweet as my Ancona AC who at 45 weeks old hasn't laid an egg yet, perhaps that is why she is so sweet. AC has the odd habit of jumping on my back if I even appear to be leaning forward, just so she can hang out with me. I take her off and carry her a bit and remind her that one year is her deadline.

I do have a black Sumatra hen who jumps on my back every now and then. 1st thing in the morning while I'm feeding. I don't know what WL's are. I stink at acronyms big_smile.png

I forgot about another black Sumatra hen who will let me pick her up. She is the one that was broody for 3 month in my workshop. She grew to trust me smile.png. But I only pick her up when she jumps in the feed bucket as I'm trying to feed the ducks roll.png

duh, I had a brain fart. White Leghorns. I only have 2 of them. I was referiing to the number of birds in my flock that aren't currently destined for the freezer. I'm not counting the new roo's as part of the flock. A few may make the cut to stay that I incubated. Broody born Sumatra roo's get a free pass and get to live the good lifewink.png

Day 15 here with broody Naima. She is REALLY hunkered down now. Literally has a wall of shavings built around herself and her precious clutch. She spent most of yesterday and today shovelling and raking all the shavings within her reach. Thankfully, she accepted some tuna from me today. She accepted the gamebird starter and yogurt for a couple of days but went off that as well. Her colour is much improved now so I'm not feeling so worried about her but she goes days without getting off her nest. Crazy girl!

I cant get my hands on anything untill sunday and her treatment would have come by then, i just dont want the sugar water to give her a boost to make her want to leave the eggs

You mean you can't worm her til Sunday?  you can give her sugar water for a one time thing because it will elevate her blood sugar if you keep it up which is not good. Can you get some poultry vitamins?  Gape worms is very serious i hope you can get her treated quicker than this coming Sunday.
