Now hens that are very used to you may not attack you, animals certainly can be conditioned. My chickens are used to the dogs, but I can tell with my eyes closed when a dog is close to the hen house....everybody gets nervous...as they should. But I'm sure they would go after the dog given the chance....

exactly. A VERY good broody will protect her chicks from anything or anyone who moves too fast, gets too close etc. That doesn't mean one who will stand on you or let her chicks stand on you isn't good.  I have one broody who lets me walk right up to her and her chicks. She will run over my feet to get food. She is the exception to my broody's however, not the rule.

They are chickens with chicken reactions. It is nature and like people they are all different.

I think I'm taking a vacation from this thread. anyone needs me pm me. I'm burned out............

I'm always shocked how people take something typed on a forum so personally :) If I say it here I have done it. No Bull poop from me. I'm not arguing, I'm stating what I see in MY flock of 10 years.I'm NOT P.C. If that offends please just block me :)

I don't know. sad.png Try cross posting in this thread. Heavy traffic today and everyone, mostly, with new chicks.

Farmerboy, that is sad, injuries happen. Can you get a close up pic? Is the chick still eating and drinking, or just standing around hunched up? Remove from all other keep quiet dark warm /not hot, and let it rest and stay calm. This may be a herniation which can be reduced with very gentle pressure to ease back into the body cavity. Do not attempt to force feed or water. This sounds quite grim.

They are cooped at night but the problem is that its just me and my mom. If I want to move the pen, I either have to beg my mom to help me move it before she goes to work at 7 am.. OR I wait until my boyfriend can come help me move it one afternoon. And since I have asked my mom repeatedly if she would help me and all I get is NO... I think Ill take my chances catching the chicks in the afternoon when my bf can help me move their pen.

Yes toss it. Anything that smells is teeming with bacteria. Be sure to not break it open.

Well, that question answered itself. sad.png It had died. I opened the shell to see if I could figure out what happened. First thing I noticed was that it hadn't I eternally pipped. It went straight for an external pip. And the second thing I noticed was that it had an extra toe growing out of another toe. So probably some internal formation issues to go along with that.

So my hatch is complete. 6/8 for a first hatch isn't bad I think.
