The other day, I realized it was not one of my New Hampshire Reds who'd gone broody and hatched out five healthy chicks, it was one of my two Isa Browns! Sad, yes, I know! I chalk it up to having a five month old baby and not even considering my Isa Browns to be interested (my two are at least four years old, my NHR are two years, plus Isas browns are not known for going broody). She has done a great job! They are almost two weeks old. I am feeling quite silly about the whole thing. Since this chicken sat through two incubation cycles before hatching out some eggs, I am wondering if the first cycle, one was actually one of my NHR. Then the Isa went broody and I gave her some eggs. I was quite certain, the first go round that it was a NHR and I can tell the difference between mine. Feeling a little dumb today!
I need HELP, I just found an egg my broody must have pushed out of the nest, stepped on, chick is still alive. I wet the membrane and covered in a wet towel. Broody is off the nest, two more pipping. No incubator, what do I do???
