Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread - Page 828

chickens.jpgJust thought I would put in a picture of my Buff and her Australorp chicks (and 1 bantam) that are now 5 weeks. She is the best mother hen ever!!! Never pecks at me, very calm and friendly. She let me give her the day-old chicks in the middle of the day and the bantam a week later. I got a young rooster who thinks he is still a chick, and last night Henny Penny even let him sleep in the nest with her and the chicks!chickens henny penny.jpg

2 Buff Orpingtons, , 2 Australorps, 2 Bantam EE, 2 Delawares, 2 Barnevelders, 2 blue mixed something, 1 "Orpicana",1 Polish mix that looks like a roadrunner! A black Bantam Faverolles rooster named Henry. And 2 Australian Spotted ducks.

2 horses, 4 dogs, 2 cats.

We're on lockdown now, so its cross my fingers time, but these three eggs were continuing to develop even after the great poop event.

That's what makes using a broody so much fun - watching them out and about with the babies!  Cute!!!!

*ETA* I had to move mama to a different nesting box that was bigger, on a good note I'm glad I  double checked the box, I found the missing chick, turns out it's the chick that is "paralyzed" on one side. Mama has been extra protective of this chick. It was in the nesting box the whole time, it was also warm so I know she's been keeping it under her.
