p.s. My purpose in raising Cream Legbars would be to perpetuate good examples of the breed in my area as well as simply to enjoy having them. I am the world's worst salesperson and do not intend to sell eggs or chicks non-locally. While it would be nice to make back my initial purchase cost, I am not buying these birds to make a profit. Given my selling nonexpertise, Cream Legbar chicks and eggs will be going for $5 a dozen by the time I have extras to sell.

As many have said, i'm sure many on here have great eggs. I got mine from sunny side farms and from richard at jordan farms.  I have 3 hatch from each.  2 males and 4 females.  The females all look fairly standard, all with crests.  only one of the males is worth breeding.  But, I would have to say all are fantastic looking birds!!  To add to those I bought some chicks from the 3rd GFFs lines. Too young to really tell the difference yet.  

 

Anyway, good luck.  I have heard and read great reports of many other folks in this forum with hatching eggs for sale.

If money weren't an issue, I'd have orders in with several of you right now. It's probably good, though, that I'm limited to trying just one batch of eggs to see how things go. :-)

The dry incubation method must of been developed by someone who lived in a very humid area.  Our area is much less humid.  I was test running my hovabator 1202 and when I followed the dry method instructions the humidity was at 15%.  I kept looking and found what seemed more reasonable and followed that.  Really wasn't too hard to regulate.  The Genesis sounds like a nice set up.

Here In Woodland CA, we may have a sprinkle. It's a nice change from last weekend-Saturday was 105 and Sunday was 107. I did not lose any chickens, but others did around here.

 

Tomorrow is a big day for me too. I will be combing four flocks into two. I will be moving EO Marraduna Basque chickens out to a hutch with a run, combing my older two Cream Legbars with my younger three plus a lone hatched RIR. I will also be moving two Partridge Rock hens and a SG Dorking Cockerel in with the big girls. The Dorking is temperary. I will also be taking three Partridge Rock Cockerels to a BYC friends farm where we will be processing them along with four Delaware Cockerels.

I think basically all three charts at this site are the same---with British being slightly more saturated perhaps.  Monitors, printers, etc. all vary.  I think that the saturation of your egg is impressive...and colors relate to the colors they are next to---so the human eye can adjust and compare the egg you have to skin color.  It is a great egg.

I second what others have said.  When I read the dry incubation method in its entirty it specified that the room tempurture be brought up to 50%. You probablly loose about 10% humidity in raising the tempurature from room level up to 100 deg F, so the incubator level is probablly about 40% with the dry incubation method.

Lafaeden: my legbar hens egg color has stayed consistent as she has aged. She is now over a year old and the eggs look the same as when she first started laying.

The processing went well--4 Delawares and 3 Partridge Rocks. The Delawares were 7 months old and huge old monsters. The Partridge Rocks were 5 months old and not very big, but they will be very tender.

 

The EO Basque are outside. The Partridge Rock Pullets are getting along well with the big girls. The 5 month old SG Dorking is hiding between a wall and a coop run. The big girls gave him a thrashing LOL. I may have to figure something out for him. For now, he has food and water close by. He is such a whimp!smack.gif

 

I will move the Legbars together tonight. I hope the get along...

We will be offering eggs and chicks from all of them just PM me to get on the list for which one youd like. We also have a few sweet Dairy goats ( Nubians and Toggs)
